Head's Update October 2018
October 2018
Firstly, can I thank all parents who attended our ‘Meet the Tutor’ day at the start of term. It was fantastic to have so many parents in school and the day really set us up for a great start to the year. We had lots of very positive feedback from parents and students, who really valued the chance to meet and talk to their child’s form tutor.
As you may know, we have made several changes to the school day by moving to split breaks and lunches. The changes have eased congestion around the building and reduced queuing at breaktime and lunchtime.
Can I remind parents that lessons start at 8.40 am (form tutor time is later in the day), so students arriving late will be missing out on learning. It is therefore very important that all students arrive in school on time and are ready for lessons to start at 8.40 am.
An exciting development we are working on as a school is our “Mind to be Kind” programme. We recognise that alongside academic achievement, we need to develop our young people to be successful and happy members of society. “Mind to be Kind” helps us to teach key ways of showing respect, living without fear and not causing harm to others. As we roll out this programme we hope that you will see positive changes in your child.
Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to all our students, parents and staff that make Sir John Thursby Community College such a special place.
