The dangers of cigarettes and passive smoking FGM – what is this and why is it so dangerous? Emotional Changes at Puberty Introduction to mental health issues –depression focus. What are drugs? Why are they dangerous? (class A, B and C) How can we manage our anger? What are safeguarding concerns and How do I get help if needed? Taught within the science curriculum: physical changes in puberty Additional lessons addressing specific needs: To ensure safety from any potential child protection concerns, how to stay safe and where to look for help if required. |

In this unit students will learn the importance of keeping a healthy lifestyle involving the dangers of smoking/passive smoking. They will appreciate the consequences of taking drugs and learn the different classifications A, B, C of drugs. They will learn about the emotional aspects of puberty. They will learn the about the act of FGM. They will acquire knowledge regarding mental health issues, anger management and also how to get help with any potential safeguarding issues Taught within the science curriculum: PHYSICAL changes in puberty Additional lessons addressing specific needs: To ensure safety from any potential child protection concerns, how to stay safe and where to look for help if required. |

This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding | There well maybe a great variety of prior knowledge due to content covered by feeder primary schools and what has been covered at home. This will discovered through class discussions, debates and other formative methods to ensure a base line of knowledge has been acquired and able to be retrieved | ||
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' | This is the skills that students will meet for the first time in this topic | In order to prepare students for life they must be given the opportunity to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, teamworking and critical thinking in the context of three core themes: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and aspects of careers education).Students will acquire the skills to make healthy judgements and decide for themselves what a balanced lifestyle is. They wil be able to discuss the consequences of making poor decisions regarding smoking and drug use. Students will know how to develop skills relating to anger management and also recognise emotional changes due to puberty. They will also be aware of where to seek help for matters involving safeguarding concerns | |
