What will students learn |
Students will be solving problems by redesigning windsocks. They will be addressing environmental issues within their design and will gain knowledge of Biomimicry within the textile industry. They will develop a range of physical textile techniques that will include hand embroidery, applique, reverse applique, surface pattern design, dying and printing techniques, CAD design, 3D construction, sublimation print and stencilling. |

Students will develop an understanding of fabrics and their properties and how they can be manipulated, printed, constructed and dyed. Students will research into environmental issues and how textiles can be used. They will gain understanding of Biomimicry and how it has influenced design in both Textiles and Products. Students will record information and present this visually, written and verbally. They will develop skills in surface pattern and embellishment techniques. Students will add annotation and written communication to design ideas to explain their design thinking and suggestion of shapes, patterns and construction methods |

Students will have knowledge of basic fabric properties- fibres and fabrics. They will have developed some understanding of sustainability. They will know how to create design drawings and add detailed annotation to show their understanding . |

This is a focussed project that will embed technical/practical skills alongside developing an understanding of the environmental issues faced within the textile industry. Students will use problem solving skills to creatively design a Windsock. The windsock will have printed patterns based on nature. Students will gain confidence in using textile machinery and refine practical textile construction skills. They will learn how to combine a range of techniques to produce a range of unique personal responses. They will learn how to construct and develop 3D textiles to solve an environmental problem. |

Students will understand why you need a pattern to construct 3D textiles. They will have basic hand embroidery and applique skills. They will know how to thread a needle and be able to identify health & safety practices within a workshop. |
