When is it happening | Term 2
What will students learn |
Understand ratios describe proportional relationships. Be able to describe proportional relationships using ratios and fractions. Experience using scale factors, constants of proportionality and unit ratios to solve problems. |
||
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' | This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic | Students are reminded that ratios tell us about how things relate to each other, not the size of those things. Tables are used to compare part : part and part : whole ratios and to solve problems. Fractional representations of proportional relationships are connected to ratios. Students are challenged to find part : part and part : whole relationships as fractions. Constants of proportionality and scale factors are revisited with a tabular representation of ratios. Bar models demonstrate the equivalence of equivalent ratios. Students use the unit ratio to find the constant of proportionality. They use the unit ratio to solve multi-step ratio problems.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding | Students are reminded that ratios tell us about how things relate to each other, not the size of those things. Tables are used to compare part : part and part : whole ratios and to solve problems.
