DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
Curriculum Intent Statement
Our KS4 Design & Technology curriculum is designed to deepen students' understanding of design principles, technical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for further study and careers in creative, engineering and technological fields. We aim to develop confident, independent learners who can apply critical thinking and problem-solving to real-world challenges.
- Master Advanced Technical Knowledge: Explore a wide range of materials, manufacturing processes and digital technologies, applying them to create innovative and functional products.
- Apply Design Thinking: Use iterative design processes to research, prototype and refine solutions that meet user needs and consider social, moral and environmental impacts.
- Develop Practical Expertise: Work with precision and accuracy in using tools, machinery and CAD/CAM systems, ensuring safety and quality in all outcomes.
- Promote Sustainability and Responsibility: Evaluate the lifecycle of products and make informed decisions about materials and processes to reduce environmental impact.
- Prepare for Progression: Build transferable skills such as project management, analytical thinking, and communication, supporting pathways into A-levels, vocational courses, apprenticeships and careers in STEM and design industries.
Our intent is to empower students to become innovative designers and problem-solvers who can contribute positively to a rapidly changing technological world.
