When is it happening  Year 8 Term 1
What will students learn Students will describe what websites and webpages are, identify the purpose and audience for websites, investigate what makes a good and bad website. Identify the different component features of webpages. Students will be given a client brief and a success criteria to aid them in producing a visualization diagram which will help them to plan and then build a website in Serif WebPlus. Students will learn to build a website in Serif WebPlus consisting of a template, webpages, navigation and colour scheme. They will add images, text and hyperlinks to their webpages. Students will also learn to understand the importance of peer and self-evaluations and be able to effectively give and use peer evaluation feedback. Students will use the evaluations against a success criteria as a way of looking at what criteria has been met or not.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Students will describe what websites and webpages are, understand the terms ‘Audience’, and ‘Purpose’ for different websites such as entertainment, educational, e-commerce, social networking etc. Students will be able to effectively evaluate websites and identify features of a good and bad web site such as design aspects, layout, colour, fitness for purpose, fonts, animations, ease of use etc. Identify a success criteria from given client brief such as target audience, location, age, gender etc.  Understand how to structure their website using visualization diagram which will including house style, layout and this will be linked to the success criteria identified by the students. Students will understand the purpose of different  features and tools in Serif Webplus such as inserting tables, images, text, banners, changing colours, inserting media into webpage etc. Students will learn to build webpages using Serif Webplus. Students will learn to understand the importance of peer and self-evaluations and be able to effectively give and use peer evaluation feedback. Students will use the evaluations against a success criteria as a way of looking at what criteria has been met or not.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Students should know the following from KS2: Understand computer networks, including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the World Wide Web, and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration. Students  should also know the following from Year 7: Understand the term purpose and audience. Students will also know how to edit images using a wide range of tools and techniques using photoshop.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic Students to design a visualization diagram based on the client brief and success criteria which should include navigation bar, house style, font type, text type/colour. Students to repurpose teacher provided assets (e.g. graphics, image, texture, sound, video, animation, text. Create a master page that follows closely the visualisation diagram. The Master page will include a banner, Navigation bar and a colour scheme that is used throughout the site. Create additional pages for the website using advance skill such as Curving Text, marque text (scrolling text), rollovers, page transitions, photo gallery, hotspots, contact us form, repurposing media and embedding multimedia content. Intermediate skills include changing background colour, text colour, text size, adding video/animation to webpages, inserting images, adding hyperlinks etc.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Create suitable folder structures to organise and save web pages and asset files using appropriate names.
